Social Justice & Advocacy

The YWCA is committed to providing a wide variety of individual and community social justice education opportunities which promote equity in our increasingly diverse community and improve the quality of life for women of all ages, races, and faiths.

DEI Community Groups

Our DEI Community Groups are designed to be safe spaces for individuals to grow and learn about a DEI topic and engage with other community members who are on a DEI journey. We use a shame- and guilt-free approach to recognize where we are and identify steps to move to where we want to be. Our learning opportunities change each session, and we are always adding new options. Different topics are offered each session and include topics such as implicit bias and intersectionality.

Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI)

If you are interested in pursuing a one-on-one DEI journey, we offer the Intercultural Development Inventory. We use this tool to help you understand the way you are approaching cultural commonalities and differences, and then give custom recommendations for growth. This is a foundational tool that helps individuals and groups jump start their diversity, equity, and inclusion journey. Additionally, the IDI supercharges other DEI work by helping focus efforts on the most helpful next steps for each individual.

Community Conversations

Community Conversations (previously our Stand Against Racism series) is a weekly Wednesday series where we illuminate issues involving race in our community and highlight the voices of people here who are making a difference.

The series most often takes the form of a webinar/interview, but we will occasionally share other resources that relate to timely issues or call our community to action around a topic. Please follow us on Facebook to see new videos as they are posted and to look back at previous videos.

Until Justice Just Is Campaign

The YWCA USA Until Justice Just Is (UJJI) campaign provides 200 YWCAs and their respective communities across the nation a unique opportunity to raise awareness about the impact of institutional and structural racism by uniting their voices to educate, advocate, and promote racial justice and to build a sense of community among those striving for racial justice.

A cornerstone of the national UJJI Campaign is the 21-Day Stand Against Racism Challenge which offers everyone the chance to participate in and help foster a virtual community of growth and learning around social, systemic, and institutional racial inequity.

Opportunities for Groups

Our goal is to make Greater Green Bay a more inclusive and welcoming place, and for many people that starts at work! We offer a variety of services to help businesses, organizations, or other groups improve their cultural competency. From one-on-one coaching to workshops to a life-size board game – we have an option to fit every group. We create a plan for each group taking into consideration the time you can commit, where you are on your journey, and your budget. We are part of this community and pride ourselves on being easy to work with, approachable, and affordable.

Advocacy

YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families, and strengthen communities. From voting rights to civil rights, from affordable housing to pay equity, and from violence prevention to health care reform, we’ve been at the forefront of the biggest issues of the day for 160 years. We carry on this long tradition of social action and advocacy to advance our mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and ensuring peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. You are a crucial part of this work, and your voice is critical as we advocate for policies that bring us closer to fulfilling that mission
