Week Without Violence
Week Without Violence is part of a global movement with YWCAs across the country and around the world to end violence against women and girls. At YWCA, we know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally and that some victims go unrecognized altogether. That’s why, for more than 20 years, YWCA has set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence.
Join us from October 21-26,2024, as we raise awareness, elevate survivor voices, talk with policymakers, and more with a common goal: centering survivors so that together, we can end gender-based violence.
This year’s theme will focus on Financial Trauma: From Financial Abuse to Safety and Justice.
Author Janet Newman Presents- Letters from Clara
Presenting Clara’s Story From A Historical Perspective
with Janet Newman
Join us for this free public event
When Janet Newman went to work for the
YWCA of Wausau, she didn’t anticipate it would
lead to writing a book nearly 30 years later.
‘Letters from Clara: One Intrepid Woman’s
Travels on the Eve of War, 1936-1939’,
published by the Wisconsin Historical Society
Press, tells the story of a woman whose life
was profoundly impacted by the YWCA. Janet
will describe her adventure in piecing together
Clara’s story and learning about the work of
the YWCA in the 1920s and 1930s, both locally
and globally.
Free lunch will be provided from 11:00-11:45 am
Janet’s presentation will be from 11:45am-12:30 pm.
Lon Newman will be playing
peace songs on his guitar before and after Janet’s
presentation.
