TechGYRLS
The YWCA TechGYRLS® – S.T.E.A.M. Experience Series seeks to empower young girls in 3rd-8th grade (particularly underrepresented girls) in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math and to encourage them to pursue careers within these fields. Through collaboration with area organizations and businesses, each field visit provides a hands-on experience and is led by women within the S.T.E.A.M. industries.
Girls can participate in all the field visits or just choose the ones they are most interested in!
Each session costs $5; however, if the fee causes a financial burden, a waiver will be granted.
YWCA is grateful to US Cellular, Walmart, Ahlstrom, Schneider and Humana Shares for sponsoring TechGYRLS.
Note: This year—-registration indicates the time to be at the YWCA. The duration includes travel time from the YWCA to the visit, actual site visit, and travel time back to the YWCA. The exception is the UW Madison trip. We are waiting for site visit details.
1. Makerspace
Welcome to summer 2025 TechGYRLS. Come to the YWCA for the kick off of TechGYRLS. The Einstein Project will host their Makerspace at the YWCA for campers to experience a variety of STEAM activities.

2. Bellin Health
Girls will get a chance to experience Physical Therapy using assistive devices, Care of a Newborn infant, and Radiology and how x-rays are taken and how they work. Girls will see a surgery suite and how to get into surgery attire and do some hands on nursing care of working with some wounds.

3. Einstein Project

4. University of Wisconsin Madison
In person STEAM experience on the UW Madison campus, complete with a short campus tour. Board the bus in the morning at YWCA for a fun day at UW Madison. Bring your own lunch as we will eat on campus. Guardians and parents are welcome. This site visit details will be forthcoming. We are envisioning leaving the YWCA around 8:00 am and returning around 5:30pm.

6. Ayres Associates
The Ayres TechGYRLS site visit will have two components. The first component will be in the office where the girls will look through engineering plans and get a general overview presentation on engineering. The second portion of the program will have a construction site visit and opportunity to see a drone in action.

9. Green Bay Metro
Technology and Transits, adults welcome too. Come learn how the transit system works and read a bus map by taking the bus. These skills are useful in understanding how to use mass transit systems across America. Reading bus schedules may come in handy for girls who choose to attend higher education opportunities, travel, or for future employment.

10. Ahlstrom
Come learn how toilet paper is made. Take a tour of the plant and participate in a hands on activity enhancing STEAM. The paper industry is a primary employer and product of Wisconsin.

11. Schreiber Foods
We will have 3 different stations/activities.
- An activity in our corporate laboratory exploring how natural colors change with varying pH levels.
- An activity with our IT team visiting our server room and learning about Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- A sensory activity where we will taste/smell/touch/see different strawberry flavors in a yogurt base.
